Emotions, and us - By Ashita - Guest writer for June 🌸

Image
Anger: A Slow Poison Anger we let out is red like sapphire Burning and untamable like a fire, Which we make to keep ourselves warm But eventually causes us harm.   It is like a whirlpool of displeasure Something that we cannot measure, Which takes over our body manipulating our soul And makes us commit the greatest of fouls.   It is now time to free from the clutches of this monster Or it would soon become an unremovable barrier, As it would eat up joyous memories, have our minds under its cruel control There’ll be nothing left within for ourselves to console.   Take deep breathes in, deep breathes out Relax the mind, let the strength and happiness within you shout. As we feel freed with the anger fading away As though a weight is lifted up on our shoulders.

Growing up with you - A poem

Image
Growing up with you In the playground, i chased you down the slide You lent me your glue stick We collected seashells from the sand pit to see how many we could find We ate my garlic bread together in the lunch break We just had a show and tell and a field trip to the lake You were my buddy there, i held your hand On friendship day, my wrist was decorated with your band Your birthday party, cake on your face Sports day and you beat me at the running race We fought over spending too much time with other friends But god you know it's only me and you till the end A post exam treat, we went out to ice cream Were growing up and losing ourselves, but you make me feel seen Not in the the same section anymore But you still make me laugh till i roll on the floor It is no longer as innocent as it was But we've grown as people together, and apart I saw you cry for the first time We fall into comfortable silence till all we can hear is the wind chime Bus rides back home w...

Land of the Seven Rivers

Image
"Land of the Seven Rivers" by Sanjeev Sanyal is a captivating book that takes readers on a meandering journey through the rich history of the Indian subcontinent. Sanyal skillfully explores various landmarks and historical events, offering insights into the Harappan civilization, the Vedas, the reign of Ashoka, the epic tales of Ramayana and Mahabharata, the cities of Delhi, the era of Mughals, the British colonial period, and the partition of India. The narrative also delves into contemporary developments, such as the rapid growth of Gurgaon as a center for the call- center industry. Throughout the book, Sanyal raises intriguing questions and presents thought-provoking ideas. For example, he ponders the absence of lion depictions on Harappan seals, suggesting that the moist climate may have been unsuitable for lions and challenging the notion that the Vedic hymns were exclusively associated with the Aryans and not the Harappans. Another peculiar topic he mentions is the ...

Summer to Monsoon - A poem

Image
Summer to Monsoon    I wake in the night When the air is hot Those red and yellow headlights blink In the eerie, underground parking lot In the balmy cafe under the red awning Mocktail in my hand, Ice  cold Under the dew drop covered leaves, the ginger cat is yawning On the car ride back home, wind in my hair It starts drizzling, tiny drops on my face Head out the sunroof, the moon we begin to chase  Summer school, cherry blossom flowers fall  Thunder rumbles, near the window we crowd Phone rings, oh it’s monsoon’s call The weather volatile, The scorching hot midday sun makes me feel like a child We’re going into June The music on my windows tells me it’s going to rain soon  Summer to monsoon Summer, come back soon
