WHAT IF - By Shreya - Guest writer for April 🦋

 WHAT IF

You only know you've been high when you're feeling low, so naturally the opposite applies too. At some point in time you learn to suppress your stress and tell yourself you're fine, that everything is okay. This facade that you put up for yourself hides the fear within. The fear of expectations, disappointment, guilt and regret.

But one day it will all go away, and you will learn to truly enjoy yourself.
And when that day comes, someone will be there.

Everytime you take a break, someone will be there waiting to remind you that life is a horse race. That you are the poor horse, the reigns of your life in the voices around you, telling you what to do and what not to. The only reason you carry the weight of these voices and run is to satisfy societal expectations, to be a winning horse, to prove that you are worth something.

But why?

Why must we run for these voices, these expectations, these people who place bets on wether we win or not all for their own gain? Why do we have to give the reigns of our life to the voices around us while ignoring the voice within? Why do we run so desperately towards a finish line that is only the start of new expectations?

Money, fame, power, medals, goals, achievements, first place.

Life is a horse race and everyone is just a little horse blinded by these ideas, their harness in the hands of society. A society that tells them these are what define your worth, your meaning.
Life is just a horse race trying to prove to others you are who they want you to be.

But WHAT IF?

What if I don't want any of that?
What if I don't want the fame, the first place?
What if I just want enough money to get by?
What if my medal was making the people around me smile?
What if my power was to help those in need without expecting anything in return?
What if my biggest achievement was to live a life with no regrets and
What if my goal was to just live- live life to the fullest,
Not to please anyone else, not for the sake of anyone else,
But for myself instead?

Just what if.

You've changed my mindset about expectations and the assurance you give, telling us that we always have somebody by our side is truly comforting :) AMAZING
